Social Media Income Tax Pakistan 2026: 5% Withholding Calculator

Estimate the 5% tax deducted on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok earnings received through Pakistani banks.

What is Section 154B?

The Finance Act 2026 introduced Section 154B, which makes banks and financial institutions deduct 5% tax when money from social media platforms is credited to a person's account. The law covers anyone earning from creating, publishing or monetising content on digital platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. Payments received through banking channels, including online payment service providers, are included.

Minimum tax, not always final

For residents the 5% is a minimum tax. That means it is counted toward your income tax for the year, and if your total tax according to the slabs is higher, you pay the difference when you file. For non-residents with no permanent establishment in Pakistan it is a final tax. See the FBR tax slabs and the YouTuber tax calculator to estimate your full liability.

Example

A creator receives Rs 300,000 from a platform in one month. The bank withholds Rs 15,000. At year end, the Rs 15,000 withheld during the year is credited in the return, and any extra tax due on total income is paid then. Creators who are filers can also claim a refund if the tax withheld exceeds their liability (see the tax refund calculator).

What creators should do

  • Receive platform payments in a bank account in your own name.
  • Get an NTN and file a return every year.
  • Keep platform payment statements for your records.

FBR may issue further rules on identification and reporting, so watch for notifications.

How to use this social media income tax calculator

Enter the amount a platform paid into your bank account. The calculator shows 5% withholding and the amount left. Use it for each payment, then add the year’s payments to see how much has been withheld in total.

  • Compare the total withheld with the tax from the slabs on your whole income.
  • If the slab tax is higher, the extra is paid when you file; if lower, the withholding is the minimum tax and cannot be less.
  • Keep platform statements and bank advice slips for your records.

Creators with other income, such as a salary, should combine it with their platform income in the salary tax calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a 5% tax on YouTubers in Pakistan?

Yes. The Finance Act 2026 adds Section 154B, under which banks withhold 5% on amounts received from social media platforms.

Is the 5% tax final?

For residents it is a minimum tax. It is credited against your annual tax, and you pay more only if your total liability is higher. For non-residents without a permanent establishment it is final.

Which platforms are covered?

Digital platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.

Can I get the tax refunded?

If the tax withheld is more than your final liability for the year, you can claim a refund through your return.

Do I still need to file a return?

Yes. Filing lets you claim credit for the withholding and keeps you on the ATL.
