How much tax is deducted on a bonus in Pakistan?

Quick answer: A bonus is added to your yearly salary income and taxed at your slab rate, so the tax on it is the extra tax your total income now owes. For a salaried individual in FY 2026-27, a bonus of Rs 100,000 on a Rs 100,000 monthly salary adds about Rs 11,000 in tax, so you keep about Rs 89,000.

How the bonus tax is worked out

Pakistan taxes salary income on yearly slabs. To find the tax on a bonus, we calculate tax on your yearly salary, then tax on your yearly salary plus the bonus. The difference is the tax caused by the bonus.

Because the slabs rise in steps, the same bonus is taxed more heavily when it pushes you into a higher slab. See the full table in our FBR tax slabs 2026-27 guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is a bonus taxed separately in Pakistan?

No. For salaried individuals it is added to your salary income for the year and taxed under the same slabs.

Why is tax on my bonus higher than on my normal salary?

Because the bonus sits on top of your income, it can fall in a higher slab. For example, a Rs 200,000 bonus on a Rs 200,000 monthly salary is taxed at 20%.

Does being a filer change the tax on my bonus?

The income tax slabs apply to salary income either way, but filers get better treatment on many other transactions. See the filer vs non-filer guide.
