Frequently Asked Questions

What is Section 231B advance tax on vehicles?

Section 231B requires an advance tax payment when a new motor vehicle is registered, or when a used one is transferred to a new owner. It’s separate from the yearly provincial token tax and is adjustable against your annual income tax.

How is tax different for new vs used vehicles?

New registrations are taxed as a percentage of the invoice value. Used vehicle transfers use a flat amount based on engine size, which falls by 10% for every full year since first registration and drops to zero after 5 years.

How much more do non-filers pay?

Non-filers pay exactly 3 times the filer rate at every engine-size band, for both new registrations and used transfers — one of the largest filer/non-filer gaps in the tax code.

Where do QuickTaxPK’s tax figures come from?

Rates are based on the Finance Act 2026 and official FBR notifications for Section 231B, last reviewed on 22 September 2026.
